At our Sept. 28 Rotary meeting, we had three guests for the evening: Linda Kurth Moore, our speaker, and her husband Bill Kringe.

Holly Witte has submitted a membership application which was approved by the board and announced this evening.
Linda is an author of historical books. She spoke to us tonight about Leavenworth Sheriff Dude.

She had been visiting the Leavenworth museum and saw a picture of Dude and was intrigued. She told us a history of Leavenworth and Dude Brown. He became the town marshal in 1918, started an outfitters ranch in 1927 and was a member of the House of Representatives in 1937. He died of tuberculosis in 1942. The town was dying so Rogers and Price bought a hotel and remodeled it in the Bavarian theme in the 1960s. The idea stuck and that is why the whole town is in a Bavarian theme.

Lori and Keith attended the stewardship weekend at North Cascades Institute and Brian Hennesey is leading the efforts to create an environmental committee and two meetings were held to start that process.
Lori and Marty met with Annie Steward to discuss steps to start an Interact club in La Conner.
Alas no one drew the yellow marble.
