51st Annual Smelt Derby Family Festival
presented by the Rotary Club of La Conner
Saturday, February 27, 2016

(A reminder that you will need to bring your own fishing poles and gear)
 
 
 
General Rules
  1. Fishing begins at 8:00AM and closes at 2:00PM at the judging stand.
  2. A total of up to nine hooks on one rod may be used by each contestant.
  3. Fishing may take place from the marina at the North end of LaConner to the Rainbow Bridge on the South end of LaConner.
 
Information
  1. PARKING: Use the Parking Lot behind Maple Hall and City Hall.
  2. Public restrooms are located on Morris Street and next to the Firemen’s Museum.
  3. Derby headquarters is located in Maple Hall at the south end of First Street.
  4. Pancake breakfast, fish painting and carnival will take place in Maple Hall
 
Judging
  1. Judging stand is located in the parking lot of Anelia’s restaurant South of the Museum of Northwest Art (approx 1 block south)
  2. Bring your fish in EARLY. 
  3. Fish must be fresh or the judges will not accept them.
  4. All decisions of the judges are final.
 
Prize Categories
  1. Largest smelt caught by contestant 13 and older.  Cash Prize $100
  2. Largest smelt caught by contestant 12 and under. Cash Prize $100
  3. Largest herring caught by contestants 13 and older
  4. Largest herring caught by contestants 12 and under
  5. Smallest smelt caught by anyone
  6. Largest fish of any kind
  7. Strangest object caught on a smelt jig
  8. Ugliest fish
  9. Smallest fish other than a smelt
  10. Miscellaneous, if any awarded
 
AWARDING OF PRIZES
  1. Entries in the fishing derby judging will be accepted until 2:00PM.
  2. Fishing prizes will be awarded at approximately 2:30PM at Maple Hall
